I loved taking photos of animals. I would bring them in the house and set them up in a pretend studio and make them stand there while I took their photos. Some of them were not pleased.
On January 23, 2014, I won the USDA Photo Contest for Biosecurity for Birds Competition. I had heard about the photo contest from Andy Schneider who we called the “Chicken Whisperer.” Andy was also the spokesperson for Biosecurity for Birds. I didn’t have money for lighting equipment so I would put the animals in the sunlight, the window, or I would use an art light to set them up with contrast. As the photo above explains, my lighting trick in that photo was putting the animal in the flood light outside the house when it was dark. Don’t let money and the lack of it dissuade you from practicing your craft.
